Sweden to scrap plastic bag taxes in 2024 sparking backlash from environmentalists

The right-wing government of Sweden said on Wednesday that it would remove taxes on plastic bags from November 2024, a decision that faced strong criticism from environmental groups.

Climate Minister Romina Pourmokhtari told SVT, a Swedish broadcaster, on Wednesday that “We believe that the Swedish people are smart in using plastic bags in their daily lives and that they don’t need to be extra costly.”
