Storage News Ticker Dec 2023, Opportunities in 2024

According to Gartner, the top enterprise storage trends for 2023 include:

  • Cloud operating models: More enterprises will adopt storage-as-a-service (STaaS) and hybrid cloud file data services to reduce costs and complexity, and improve scalability and agility.
  • New SSD technologies: Quad-level cell (QLC) flash will gain more popularity as it offers lower cost, higher capacity, and better durability than triple-level cell (TLC) flash.
  • Cyber security against ransomware: Storage vendors will provide cyber storage capabilities that enable active defense and rapid recovery from cyber attacks, such as immutability and archive storage classes.
  • Better use of unstructured data for analytical insights: Enterprises will deploy data storage management solutions and single file and object storage platforms to classify, optimize, and consolidate their unstructured data, and leverage it for reporting, analytics, and IoT.

Acronis is one of the top companies in the endpoint security space, as it provides a comprehensive and reliable cyber protection solution for MSPs and their customers. Acronis aims to deliver easy, efficient, and secure cyber protection for all data, applications, and systems. Wasabi issued its 2024 predictions from from Kevin Dunn, country manager UK/Ireland & Nordics. The first prediction is that, unfortunately, not much will change in the cloud market or in the tech market more generally. The big players will continue to dominate at the cost of consumers and businesses, despite the regulations being finalized, planned, or promised which aim to redistribute power and influence away from the heaviest hitters. There will be a growing number of regulations to create a fairer market. AI will increase demand for storage providers and multi-cloud will become more common. All the new data being collected and stored to train AI should be copied and stored with another cloud provider for security.

 Summary

  • Gartner identifies nine enterprise storage trends for 2023, such as consumption-based storage-as-a-service, cyber storage capabilities, QLC flash, and single file and object storage platform.
  • Object storage is expected to gain more traction in 2023, as it pairs well with cloud-native applications, provides cyber resiliency, and supports big data and video distribution.
  • Cybersecurity and storage will converge as a cornerstone of an enterprise IT strategy, as ransomware attacks and data breaches pose serious threats to data integrity and availability.
  • Home storage trends for 2024 will include showcasing sentimental items, overhauling garages, and using smart storage solutions, according to professional organizers.
  • Self storage industry trends for 2024 and beyond will include the increasing demand for space, the adoption of self storage software, AI, and IoT, and the recession-proof nature of self storage.
  • Infinidat predicts seven storage trends for 2024, such as the triple play of cyber resiliency, detection, and recovery, the rise of NVMe over fabrics, and the evolution of storage consumption models.
